Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

-- System Information:
Debian Release: testing/unstable
APT prefers testing
APT policy: (500, 'testing')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-k7
Locale: LANG=3Dit_IT@euro, LC_CTYPE=3Dit_IT@euro (charmap=3DISO-8859-15)

if i start xmms in Gnome (from console or ALT+F2 -> xmms) it do not
start and from console i get the message:

paolo@wood:~$ xmms

Segmentation fault

Probabilmente hai trovato un bug in XMMS, per piacere visita
http://bugs.xmms.org e riempi un bug-report.

Segmentation fault
paolo@wood:~$

it started happening after i upgrade a lot of packages, such as gcc4
(and related), some Gnome packages. After doing the update it says that
i cannot installa alsa-utils (so i do not have this package installed)
if this could be of any interest.

Well i discovered that it is not an xmms issue, but some problems with
NVIDIA non free graphic drivers, probalby it is a configuration
problem (specific of my own installation).

I posted to his list and not to xmms bug tracking because i was not
sure that xmms was the only package involved (in fact so it was)

Anyway it is not bug 261001, it is easy to see this:
my error msg is segmentation fault, the bug's one is assertion failed.

hi

try this:
deinstall all xmms plugins that use GL graphics;

indeed the crash is in the "add_plugin ()" call

btw: NVIDIA drivers works very well on my system:
I can play all GL games that are in Debian, and DVDs, on a 450MHz
Pentium system
(and never experience crashes)
