Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Robert Lemmen <robertle@semistable.com>

* Package name : tablix
Version : 0.1.2
Upstream Author : tomaz.solc@siol.net
* URL : http://www.tablix.org
* License : GPLv2
* Description : high school timetable generator

tablix uses a coarse-grained parallel genetic algorithm to construct
sensible timetables from XML-formated school information files. It can
run on a single host as well as on a heterogeneous parallel virtual
machine by using PVM3. Its features include a number of possible
restrictions for teachers or classes, HTML formatted output, and
configurable genetic parameters.

i'll also package gtablix, a gui frontend for editing the xml files

Bingo!

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I should ask, though, why this program has to be tailored to high school
timetables. It seems that the algorithms are likely already generic
enough to be used in a number of other situations where resource
constraints are involved.

the current description is taken from upstreams webpage and will be
rephrased together with upstream before the upload. the program will be
usable for some other schools as well, but not everyone because of the
kind of constraints that you can (currently) express. for example
a university will have problems with this...

fet does the same thing, only it works with universities too.
