Hi All,
We are currently running Frontpage Server Extensions 2002 on our Windows
Server 2003 Web Edition box.
For an unknown reason, users get the following error message when they
attempt to delete files or folders through frontpage.
Server error: The server extensions were unable to access the file
"frontpg.lck". Please check the file permissions.
Steps that we have already attempted without any luck include:
-Deleting the frontpg.lck and services.lck files from the site.com\_vti_pvt
folder and the site.com\subweb\_vit_pvt folder.
-Removing and reextending the userweb
-Modifying permissions on frontpg.lck file
- Checked server health
-Recalculated subweb
-Reboot of the server
Removing the global server extensions and reinstalling is not an option, due
to the large number of sites currently extended.
If anyone has any information regarding this issue, it would be highly
appreciated.
Regards,
Brad
2 things here, an UNDOCUMENTED Microsoft problem with the web edition SPECIF
ICALLY, requirees you to go to the MS download site and retirieve a file you
will need - VERY UNFORTUNATELY FOR YOU AND YOUR CUSTOMERS - because this mi
ssing file MUST be installed BEFORE you create any web accounts.
2nd thing, if you are having a problem with either frontpg.lck or services.l
ck or service.lsk files not being found or writable, is due to one of two th
ings:
1. You are running your IIS6 on an NTFS platform but you are also changing
file permission using the security tab or permissions tab within explorer OR
2. On alinux or unix platform you unpacked the web edition INSTEAD of runnin
g the apporpriate .sh file !!!
All three of these seperately or in combination will blow your Extension Ser
ver off. Garanteed, everytime.
Try creating a Subweb if you dont believe me, wait 15 minutes, then try open
ing that subweb again - you will not be able to because you are not letting
FronPage Extension server handel the ACLs. You CAN NOT make folder permissi
on changes through any means OTHER than Frontpage means.
This last info is documented in all versions of MS FP AND IIS5 and 6 mauals
as wel as SharePoint services whcih is HIGLY recommended that you run when u
sing Server 2003, MUCH RATHER THAN running FPSE 2002 !!!
You should already know this.
