Hi list,
I'm going to buy a G5 PowerMac 64bit, but I don't want to stop using
GNU/Linux. I read a lot on the net about ports on powerpcs, about
ports on 64bit archs and so on... But before spending 2000 euros I
must be sure Debian will work.
Any suggestion? Any hint? Would I do better buying a normal pc?

According to the above links, the G5 is supported. I have not
personally used Debian on anything other than x86. You might want to
look through the archives of the debian-powerpc mailing list.

That depends why you want to buy a Mac.  Do you want to dual-boot Linux
and Mac OS X?  If not, have you compared the price and performance of
Mac and x86 platforms?

after having to test DebianPPC on a MacG3 i can say that it is really
impressive to use it but G5 is surely funnier :p

if its good enough for linus.

i think it should work, but you may not get powermanagement or sound working
 on the newer models

also there are no binary offical drivers for ati or nvidia on powerpc, but t
he Open Source ones are ok ish.
