Hi, everyone.
Is there any way to disable the dd command, to prevent inadvertent corruptio
n of disk areas?
On a project I am aware of, there have been 3 occasions of errors using the
dd command that overwrite critical portions of disk group headers. This cau
sed the disk groups to be unusable, and had to be rebuild from scratch; all
of the data in those disk groups was lost.
The ideal solution would be a 2-step usage, causing any user, even one with
root privileges. to have to stop and think before using the dd command - som
ething like: 1) attempt the dd command, and have it refused; 2) re-enable t
he dd command; and only then 2) use the dd command for whatever purpose was
intended.
Thanks.
