We have 2 identical DMX 3000 storage arrays in 2 different locations.
Both have about 400-146GB FC disk drives. The array reports that one
array has model IBM146F disk drives and the other has Seagate CH146LF.
I am told and suspect these are not real manufacturer part numbers but
I would think it properly identifies the manufacturer. The machines
were installed during October 2004.

Since the beginning of 2005 (I do not have data prior to that) the
array with the IBM drives has had ~2 disk failures. The array with the
Seagate drives has had ~20 failures.

I have been told it is an industry-wide problem due to defective
actuator bearings. A scan thru news groups and the web did not uncover
any discussion of a widespread manufacturing problem.

Has anyone heard of this problem or are they experiencing a similar
situation.

Greg
