Anyone have any experience with the Maxtor 'Push Button' backup system?
It seems to be an external HD and backup software. Work well? Drive good
for other stuff too if you buy a large one? Easy to use? Can it be used
to transfer HD contents from an old to a new system? Worth the expense -
maybe an added internal HD and someone elses software would be a less
expensive choice that works as well - or better?

TIA

Backup is rather meaningless unless done with external media.

The "push button" is not really useful, all it does is automatically run a
single script in the supplied backup software which I believe is a watered
down version of Dantz Retrospect. I have two Maxtor 5000LE drives, do not
even have the Maxtor software that supports use of the buttons installed.

In Dantz Retrospect, I prefer to use the Run menu and choose which script to
run.

Looking at newsgroups, the popular choices seem to be Acronis True Image and
Dantz Retrospect, each has advantages/disadvantages.

Any backup software can be used to transfer contents of one drive to another
on the same, or a different. system as long as compatible backup software is
used on each system.
