seems my apt-get upgrade last night resulted in a sarge system on my
dsl router. While all went fine, and the system is running ok, it left
a lot of packets in the "hold" state. The release notes tell to care
for those packets before the upgrade, so what is the best way to clean
this up now?

Use apt-get dist-upgrade or aptitude.
