Hi ,

Is there any parameter like maxcontig (solaris) in redhat linux? This
is the cluster size , and describes the amount of data which is read
from the disk .

My redhat linux system cant read more than 64 kb. At each read. But one
of the sun servers can read up tp 1mb. For eac read operation .

This is iostat -x :

Device:    rrqm/s wrqm/s   r/s   w/s  rsec/s  wsec/s    rkB/s    wkB/s
avgrq-sz avgqu-sz   await  svctm  %util
/dev/sda   14360.14 444.13 977.94 71.53 122701.78 4122.42 61350.89
2061.21   120.85    47.37    4.52   1.70 177.94

here r/s : 977.94 and rkB/s is  61350.89  . This means the system read
62.73 Kbytes per io. I want to increase this value ( so decrease the
r/s in order to have better io )

In sun solaris , this is possible by changing the maxcontig parameter
using tunefs -a 128 /dev/xxa  .

Is it possible to achive the same thing in linux?

Kind Regards,
Tolga Evren
