Hi,

I know this topic is already viewed here. But there are some recent changes.
And the last post here was in 2004.

Does anyone have already a nice solution for a text chat with smileys?

I used to use Jolan's components, but it seems that his component isn't
compatible with flash7 because there are conflicts with a few components
like peoplelist and listbox.
I read in a forum that there is a second version of his component but I was
not able to find them (www.jolan.org <http://www.jolan.org/> is out of
order)

Those smiley's are very in so there must be at least one person who has a
solution for this.

Regards,
Bart

I've also been trying to add smileys into my chat.

I've tried to convert v1.3 of jolans component to work with Flash Player
7/Actionscript 2 and have also tried creating my own but it seems to be
a very long process.

If anyone has managed to convert it or created their own solution it
would be great to hear of it.

Thanks, Craig

Youa re in luck! I've managed recently to make a
FP&/AS 2.0 text field with emote icons. Here it is in
a demo:
http://www.naicuandnaicu.com/flash_smilies/

The above one ddoes not support html. And the
principle is this one: The emote icons are in a movie
above the text. The exact position is found by
measuring lineas and word lenghts (char by char). Word
wrapping is done manually with AS.

I'll post up the code when I get back home right now I
am in a small trip.:p

And here it is in action:
http://www.naicuandnaicu.com/avchat/demo/

This version supports <b> and <i> tags ( bolder font
is wider) . To note is the fact that i had some
isses with the text size formatted using html. <font
size=3D"11"> rendered as if it were 10px.?!!?

It is not a component yet but it can be easily turned
into one.;)

No, the search keys used are up to you... for the demo, im not using
shorthand, but you can associate any loadable flash symbol to any keyword,
like the smile emote may be tagged to and :-) and smile and have a
nice day or what ever... I just feel the people with noses are too often
discriminated against, so I force you to type :-) to show solidarity towards
their plight, viva la nose!

I have decided to add no nose support to the key words for the demo, how
ever we will still not support people with chins!
