Hi Jan,
FTP transmits the login id and password in clear text. Even if you encrypt
the file, you make it easy for a hacker to gain access to the FTP directory,
where they can download the file, delete it, upload an alternate... make all
kinds of mischief.
SSH is an order of magnitude better. It is open source, runs on Windows and
Unix, and has very few bugs.
