I was in a training class today and the discussion was
about servers and what kind of applications can run on a
server. I said that MS Word could be run on a server. The
instructor told me that I was incorrect and that MS Word
can not run from a server and that Word would have to be
loaded on to the PC in order to run the application
and/or view Word formatted documents. She continued to
say that the only thing that the server could do is
enable me to access those files, but not open them. Was
the instructor correct?

If the document is on the server and Word is installed on the server, you
will be able to open the document on the server, however, you can not open
the document on the client unless Word is installed on the client. If word
is not installed on the client, Windows will open the file in wordpad as an
rtf
