If I want to create a custom event log which my orchestration writes
to, especially for debugging, how do I use the expression shape to
write to this custom event log?

I don't want to use the global application log as I don't want to mix
my special logging entries with the system applicatino log entries.

Create an external class to do your custom logging (i.e. appending to
file, like http://cephas.net/blog/2003/08/22/logging_in_c.html). Then
call this assembly from your expression shape.
