One of the systems I connect to at the office is a Caldera/OpenUNIX
system
(version 8.0.0 according to the "uname" command)

Whenever I use "vi" to edity a file it always starts up with a window
of only 8 lines. I checked the value of the TERM environment variable
and it is set to "vt100". I tried setting the value of the "LINES"
environment variable and that had no effect on the problem. I was able
to use the "-w" option of vi to specify the window size.

Why is VI so confused about the window size ??
