Several questions:

1. Has Microsoft come out with a product to do it's own trend analysis on
their web logs?
2. What are some of the preferred log, trend analysis packages? ie: Urchin,
Webtrends, etc...?

I'm a small hosting provider and love the Webtrends type reporting, but boy,
do they charge a premium...

Thanks!

Hi

The microsoft log parsing / report generating tool got dumped after IIS 4
for some reason.

They now have a product called Log Parser that you can run specific queries
against log files and heaps of other logs and even AD. It does not really do
reports like you see in most packages but you can run specifc reports using
a SQL like language.

There are a number of free products such as Analog that can be scripted to
create reports.

For a list of products see
http://iisfaq.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2550

It really depends on your budget as there is a lot of different log file
analysis packages on the market and as you found out some are quite
expensive.

One I like is called SurfStats and it comes in a lot of different flavours
depending on your requirements
