My sarge server had a hard disk failure, so I've had to re-install
everything from scratch. I went to install openwebmail, and the package
isn't there. I'm 99% certain that I originally installed it with an
apt-get. I did an apt-get -s openwebmail on an ubuntu box, and sure
enough it was there. Thought maybe it was some licensing issue, but upon
checking found that it's gpl. Do packages really get removed from Debian?

Dan

Of course. This one appears to have been removed for lack of anyone
interested in maintaining it.

I don't recall seeing anything about openwebmail in the debian-security
mailing list. A search on packages.debian.org doesn't show it in any
distribution. Are you sure you didn't get it from Ubuntu or from
apt-get.org?

It shows up in the BTS. Looks like it it was removed due to many severe
bugs and no maintainer.

Definitely not. Didn't even know about apt-get.org until now. Thanks for
the tip though, I found it there.

I never found any problems with it. It's a good piece of software.

I found it listed in the "Orphaned Packages" in Debian Weekly News in
March.
