Hi
I have Windows 2000 server set up as DC and Exchange. I am having a
nagging problem with SMTP stopping often. This problem was severe in
the first place when SMTP went down every few seconds but I manage to
find a solution to keep it up longer and some time even for few days
but now I am looking for permanent solution.
Temp. Solution was to rename vsi 1 folder in C:\Program
Files\Exchsrvr\Mailroot and creating it again and restarting the SMTP
services.

I was getting these 2 error logs on Event Viewer


1. The Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) service terminated
unexpectedly.  It has done this 215 time(s).  The following corrective
action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: No action.


And


2. The IIS Admin Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done
this 53 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 1
milliseconds: Run the configured recovery program.

Rajan,

Are you using any third party software on your SMTP server or IIS. Often
when plugins crash, they take down the server with it. If this is the
case, try disabling them and see if that works.
