I just re-installed debian sarge after mucking it up royally and I've run
into a problem with the display resolution. In the previous installation I
had a similar problem and it was solved by using dpkg-reconfigure xserver-
xfree86 and selecting the S3 ViRGE video card and setting 1024 x 768 @75hz,
which worked last time.
This time however, It's not getting me any results. I can get the 1024x768
allright, but there are horizontal lines of 'sparklies' and noise that
appear semi-randomly all over the screen very often making it almost
impossible to read text. *Note*, this is a dual boot system and the very
same card and monitor perform flawlessly 1024x768@75hz as my default
settings in win98se as well as in the previous debian installation.

The way these are used in windows is the ATI device is built into the
motherboard, but since it blows chunks, I'm using the S3 ViRGE and routing
it through the 3dfx Voodoo on a sceptre monitor. How can I get this
arrangement to work with debian?
If anybody's got a clue, or better yet, an outright solution I'd be
gratefull. I hate it when something works differently even though I've
done everything the same way as when it did work.
