Hi All,

I run incremental backups of my home networked PC's each week.

I am finding a significant amount of overlap (duplication) of files that (as
I see it) haven't changed.

Take for example, wma and mp3 files in my library, do not change but are
incrementally backed up.

I gather that even if a file is only accessed (in this case played) it is
considered to have changed, the archive
attribute is set and it is therefore backed up.

Is this what happens ?

If so, can I modify the files and or backup settings to only incrementally
backup files that have genuinely changed...

Download a trial version of Relative Rev Backup

It is a true incremental backup software that will tell you which file
has changed, so you will be able to compare.

Thanks for the link,

This looks exactly like what I am looking for regarding incremental
backups...

I do need to be able to backup from other pc's in my home network though -
this software appears to only be for local backups though...

I'll keep looking.

Actually it can backup into a network mapped drive, or UNC path.

So, what you need to do is to install it on every computer you have,
and then select the same drive as the backup destination.

That way you will have the best performance (as every computer has its
own dedicated agent), lowest network load, and yet all backups will be
concentrated on the same disk, as you want.

You can also define several backup destinations, if you want to have
more than one...

So I can draw the information locally, but store it via a unc path ?
