7960 hijacks the user interface when calls come in

We have a problem with our cisco 7960s using the SIP load.

While trying to transfer a call, if another call comes in, the entire
user interface is "hijacked" and you can not complete the transfer
process.

The only option available on the softkeys is "accept" (for the new
call), so you can not complete the transfer.

This is a serious problem especially when trying to use the 7960 as a
switchboard phone causing many calls to be lost in "transfer limbo".

As a side issue, is there any way to reprogram the layout of the
softkeys on the 7960? Having to press "more" to get to "transfer" is
just silly.

Device -> Device Settings -> Softkey Template

Under there, find the softkey template assigned to the phone in question.
Then, click 'Configure Softkey Layout'. You should be able to change
everything you need in there. There is a button for 'Ring In' which is
where you'll probably need to add 'Transfer' to.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Court.

You must be referring to the cisco Call Manager web interface? I don't
see any similar settings on the phone itself.

Assuming you are talking about Call manager, does call manager allow you
to change the soft-key settings on the SIP load of the phones?

Aside from the key-map settings, is there a way to prevent the
hijacking?

Thanks

John
