Today I wasted another hour or so trying to get TorCP to work. Author claims
in rather crappy doc page that it works on all versions of windows from win9
5
and up. It does not. It does work in XP. (I do not have win95).

Program documentation is poor, just like tor. Program starts tor without eve
n
notifying you, EVEN after you select, "do not start" on startup. Then you ca
nnot
stop Tor without rebooting. Another sloppy program from the Tor group. I thi
nk
these guys just like to shove all this crap off on users so the poor user wi
ll
do their beta testing for them.

Tried all the program's suggestions on getting it to work, -no go. Guess whe
n
they say "all versions of windows" what they really mean is: it works on my
XP box. Sorry, but I am fed up with shit software, even if it is "free"-it's
not free if you waste alot of time trying to get junk programs to work.

Sounds like you're running Tor as a service. If so, you will need to
specify the control port in torrc. The default for TorCP is 9051 so just
add the following line to torrc

ControlPort 9051

See OP, please. Tried with and without this line in torrc. Still does not wo
rk
correctly. Also the author says this is for running with NT as a service onl
y
and does not say anything about using this setting for other OS's or when no
t
running as a service. Like I said, crap documentation, crap program. Also au
thor
offers no explanation of how program works to help users to troubleshoot on
their own. Many of these guys have no concept of what really good programmin
g
is and what it requires.

To the other poster, don't have time to thread a reply directly to you, but
I already know how to end a process and I am not using XP. As I recall I was
not able to end the process for this program in the normal fashion and I had
to reboot. These Tor programmers are sloppy and we all know what that means
for anonymity. Like most unix folk they they are like the computer guy on Sa
t.
Night Live-if you don't already know you are not worthy of their support.

Why did you waste an hour on a program that you've confessed you hate?

It is in alpha. If you don't want to use alpha and beta quality code,
then do not use Tor until such a time as we hit a v1.0. We are at
0.1.0.x at the moment.

Then don't use it, simple. Although maybe you should ask yourself why
nobody else seems to hit all these hurdles that you tell us about month
after month.

And another 2 minutes bitching at us about it. Your time must be very
valuable.
