I am using FP 2002, WinXP Pro, and IIS 5.1. I have a web server
http://localhost at c:/Inetpub/wwwroot and a sub web bookfixer at
c:/Inetpub/wwwroot/myweb. I have been unable to publish to it or even open
it as a web recently. I used to be able to open web http://localhost/myweb
but now I can't.

In Front Page I get a "web server http://localhost does not appear to have
the Front Page server extensions installed" error. In IE6 it opens the
default.asp document but only display the html code.

In checking IIS it is showing the server extensions (v 5.0.2.6738) are
installed. When I click on "Settings" on the Server Extensions 2002 tab, IE6
opens with "The page cannot be displayed ...HTTP 500 - Internal server
Error." Clicking on "computername" home page produces the same error.

I have run all the tasks to check and recalculate to no avail. I have
un-installed and re-installed FP, IIS, FPSE, everything I can think of. I
even tried manually removing any registry references, but I cannot get my
web server to function. FP says the server extensions are not installed, IIS
says they are.... FP will not create a new web or sub-web because it thinks
the extensions are not installed. I'm stuck and cannot publish my web site
(on the www) to my server based web (on my computer).

I have searched the web and the KB without finding anything on point. I'm
about ready to re-format my hard drive... any other suggestions?

TIA,

~Jim

Are you running the x64 version of Windows XP Pro? Server Extensions
version 5.0.2.6738 are only for IIS6 on Windows x64 editions

No I'm not running the x64 version of WinXP.

I uninstalled the FPSE 2002 and IIS. I then re-installed IIS 5.1 and then
the FPSE 2000 from the WinXP CD.

IIS now reports server extensions v 4.0.2.8912

If I try to open http://localhost in IE6 I get a "page cannot be displayed
... HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error"

When I try to open http://localhost in Front Page, I get an error "the web
server at http://Localhost does not apper to have the front page server
extensions installed"

Front page will not open http://localhost/ (It still reports that the server
extensions are not installed on the server based web.), but it will open
c:/inetpub/wwwroot. Tools... Web Settings... reports server extensions v
5.0.2.6738 and "no server in use".

It looks like there may be more than one version (or parts of a version) of
the server extensions installed. How can I insure that all server extensions
are completely removed so that I can start over and re-install everything.

Thanks,

~Jim
