Hi Felix,
It will be interesting to see what stage your packager is getting stuck. Can
you please specify what does the PUP screen show during the period of
inactivity.
In the site packager ini file there is an option to specify if you want to
pack existing data into the site. Check this section
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/?....asp?frame=true) w.r.t more detail on the packager.
If you have a production release of the site package then I'd recommend that
1. From you current site you Export the catalogs (as XML) and delete them
from the current site.
2. You use the pup to transfer the site and associated binaries onto the
new machine. While installing the PUP create the same databases as your
existing site (names and such).
3. Post this unpackage and once you've verified the correct functioning on
the new H/W... stop the existing site... detach the existing site database..
.
transfer them (copy) to the new H/W to replace the created DB's and attach
them again.
4. Import the Catalogs into this site on the new H/W.
In this way you'd have transferred your existing site (the transaction,
users and organization objects) onto the new H/W.
