Software: IIS 5, Windows 2000 server, MS SQL Server 2000, .NET framework
1.1.

We have ha web based .NET application that runs against an SQL server. The
last couple of weeks we've had a problem with authentication that shows
itself every now and again.

For each page shown in the client browser (IE 6), a logon prompt pops up. If
you just press ESC in this prompt the next page is still shown properly. The
result is the same if you instead should logon with your domain username and
password. In any case the logon prompt will pop up again on the next page,
and next page, and next.

It can be like this for several hours when it's suddenly starting to work
normally again. After a few hours more the logon prompt is starting to pop
up again.

We use integrated windows security on the IIS. The IIS server is added as a
site in the local intranet security zone setting on the clients' IE. The
local client logon setting for this zone is set to "automatic logon only in
intranet zone".

The only way we've come up with to stop this behaviour is by adding the
user(s) to the server's local administrators group.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Regards,
Roger Svensson
