Do Data Movers have their own IP address ? How to Clients communicate
with data movers

I'm guessing that you're asking about datamovers in the EMC Celerra.
That's the only "datamover" I know of anyways...

Each datamover in a Celerra can have one or more IP addresses.  It
supports LACP and etherchannel on its ethernet ports, and is accessible
over NFS, HTTP (as a webservice for some advance features), NDMP,
iSCSI, FTP and/or CIFS (windows filesharing protocol).  In fact, it can
support multiple independent CIFS servers, which are managable as NT4,
2000, or 2003 member servers.

The Celerra control station is accessible via SSH or through the HTTP
WebUI.  All management, configuration and control of the datamovers is
done through the control station.  It should be noted that the control
station is built on a general purpose, linux OS, and it is a security
best practice to have the control station on a separate (from the
datamovers) and secured network if possible.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by operating function, but let me
try to explain the relationship between the CS and DM.  They
communicate over an internal TCP/IP network.  The CS is not contacted
by the DM for any normal file I/O, but is required for failover, and
Celerra's built-in asynch IP replication.  All communication from the
CS to the DM is performed through the nasdb, which ensures
authorization and sequentiality.  The DM does not initiate any direct
communication with the CS unless external usermapper is used (and then
only through usermapper).

Usermapper is a small program that maps windows users (NT4 domain, or
AD) to UIDs within the Celerra.  External usermapper is when usermapper
runs on the control station-- this used to be the only option.  Now
that internal usermapper is an option (run on one or more datamovers),
external usermapper is no longer needed, but still used by some older
installations.  For more information there are a couple of papers on
powerlink regarding Celerra in a Windows environment and managing
usermapper.
