I have worked out how to do Max+1 chains with decent reliability.
In JBN create a Mixmaster message book addressed to
anon@remailer.hastio.org
(or any remailer that does not have 'pgponly' in it's capstring.)

Then click the 'chains' number, changing it from 1 to 4.

Create a message chain of 19 'RANDOM' entries ending with one
explicitly chosen remailer (any 'non' middleman will do) for a total
of 20 remailers in 4 chains.
On the options menu, UN-Check 'close window on queue' (important!)
Then use the following template to build the top few lines of the
message, putting in directives for the last hop remailer:

===begin message body===
::
Request-Remailing-To: alt.privacy.anon-server@bigapple.yi.org

##
Subject:
From:
References:
X-whatever-headers:

===Message begins here.. MANUAL SIGNING ONLY for this book! (cut this line)

===end message body===

After the 'References' line and any other hash headers you wish to use,
put at least one blank line and then follow with the body of the message
that you want to send. If you sign the message, Be sure to NOT use the
default 'sign' box at the bottom of the message book, That'll break the
the remailer directives at the top.

Instead, copy the part you want signed and use PGP's 'cliboard sign'
option from it's system tray padlock icon.

BEFORE you send, Go to the JBN main window and click on the 'queue'
tab. Put a check in 'send in random order' and in 'add random latency',
which should be set to 1:00 to 8:00

Finally, click 'queue' four times and close the book.

The result is 16 chains, each 21 remailers long.
The messages will be sent randomly, one at a time over an 8 hour period.
This gives VERY long chains with excellent reliability.

Is this a lot of work? Maybe, but if you REALLY want to be obscure,
it's easily worth it.
