I've found a couple of potential problems. First, the subject
header doesn't seem to get passed to the output file (noted
in debug and with a test post when posting de novo).
When I add it to the list of Added Headers it doesn't
include the actual subject.

Second, the X-No-Archive post winds up in the body of the
message when sent from XNews.

I suppose we'll see if the references header gets passed with
this reply....

Lastly, the mix files wound up in the QS directory when
the mixdir was the qs/mix/pool. No change there.

X-News is annoying me big time. Anyway, I was going to wait until
tomorrow to test a potential fix, but could not sleep wondering if it
would work so I released another version (1.0.9.5). It should fix all
the X-News header stuff (well it fixes it for me and still works fine
for me in Gravity as well, whether it fixes it for you I won't know
until you try it too). Try running news2remail -S as well, it may work
differently for you this time.

subject on this post should be 'Re: none'

I ticked X-No-Archive in xnews when writing this. is it in headers or
body?

well, it worked with yours, if it worked properly with this post, it'll
have both in the references.

I'll let you know about that.

hrm.. just a thought. Mixmaster 2.9b38msvc, the flavor QS uses, gets its
mixdir from the registry...

what if news2remail would (if user is using a 2nd copy of mixmaster)

look in the registry and get the mixdir
look in it's conf and gets the mixdir listed there, puts that in registry.
after posting msg, news2remail would call 'mix -S' to process mail.
(or perhaps that can be yes/no/auto/manaual configurable)
when news2remail gets a sigint (user closes program, i need to use CTRL-C
in it's DOS box to kill it) part of shutdown process is reset mixmaster's
mixdir entry back to the QS value.

I assume the post below and the lack of postings saying something is
broken means the latest version works fine for you with XNews?

It is, that worked.

It's in the headers, so that works too.

There's two references like it should have, this post should have three.

The mix files ended up in the mixdir that was set in the registry as
opposed to what was set in the news2remail.conf. Not a problem, I just
need to remember to merge in the other registry data first and then switch
it back.

saying that a little simpler: Can News2Remail handle the registry swapping
and call mix -D to send? or is that better left to other methods?

Final note: Used two custom headers for this one to try that out:

This is a reply with 1.0.9.5, mix directory set for news2remail/mix
in the registry.

X-No-Archive: yes is ticked in the posting window.

No added headers.

Looks like you got the thing working. Congratulations!

Different guy and not to do with Xnews, but 1.0.9.5 gave me fits with the
news proxy portion. When I would switch to a new group or refresh, OE
reported "502 permission denied". Reverted to 1.0.9.2 - no problems. Same
configuration for each.

No idea, changes between those versions were extremely minor, they were
not major functionality changes. Also the 502 is not an error n2r would
generate. That is another case of MS obscuring the real error with
their own, effectively making troubleshooting near impossible (stupidest
move MS ever did). What does it say in the news2remail window when this
error happens?

The problem seems to have disappeared with 1.0.9.7
Thank you.
