Hello!
I'm newbee in SAN topic...
I want to connect 2 computers by Fibre Channel connection using HBA
cards like this:

[Win2003serwer]  <=> [WinNT_4.0]
2xHBA_Lsi 2xHBA_Lsi

I want to share hard drives installed on computer with Win2003server by
Fibre Channel to another computer with WinNT_4.0
This will be point-to-point connection.

Should I install some extra application on Win2003server to share this
drivers?

What can I do to see in WinNT_4.0 HDD's (volumens) from second
computer using HBA and Fibre Channel connection?

Thank You,

Bogumil Kosiorek, Warsaw - POLAND

I wouldn't use NT4 to get this done, and I wouldn't use Fibre Channel
if you are looking to get this done for less than the cost of a fancy
car. Consider iSCSI for this.

Connecting two computers can be done through network protocol i.e. file
sharing via CIFS in the Windows world, or through sharing of
block-level disk. iSCSI uses the same plumbing/physical wires as file
sharing, but you are sharing blocks instead of files.

Each computer in the scenario above would need an initiator (below)...

NT 4

.htm

Windows 2003
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsSer...lt.mspx

and a Target !

WinTarget was recently bought by Microsoft... other choices include
Wasabi Systems.
not sure about NT4 support with these guys.

Here's how to do it

iSCSI is being used for low end applications like the one you mention,
as well as critical applications and databases at major companies.

I assume you want to have data integrity so if computer "A" writes to
the disk, you want computer "B" to see the new data, and vise-versa.
If that is the case then you need to purchase some rather expensive
software like Tivoli's SANergy.

If you really need to do this w/o spending a lot of money, then I'd
just add some dedicated 1Gbit networking cards that support binding
between the two PCs, and have the NT box mount the disk as a share on
the W2k3

Than You for Your advice but do You know any other software similary to
SANergy?

The connection witch I wroted above is only "laboratory" connection.
I don't have storage controlller but I want to check how works
multipathing. I have connected 2 computers with 2 HBAs each one. One
computer (with Win 2k3) will be simulate storage server.

I need a software which let me share HDDs from computer A (Win2k3) to
computer B (winNT_4.0). I don't know how to get this done in Win2k3
without extra software and ... I don't know any software matching to
this problem :-)

This is the point-to-point connection. I used 4 LSIlogic HBA adapters:
7102XP-LC (2 adapters in each computer)
