Hi! I'm a newcomer to websphere portal and I have a problem I was hoping som
eone could help me with. The thing is that I have RAD running and I have man
aged to get a portlet up and running on a "Websphere Portal v5.1 Test Enviro
nment" server configured fr
om my RAD-development environment. But when I start this server I don't get
access to the complete "default portal" with all the different tabs (like "W
elcome", "My Workplace", "Documents" etc) and stuff, like I think I should h
ave. I did not perform the
installation but I think something is missing on my machine? How can I insta
ll this on my test environment now? Any help is appreciated!

I think the Portal test environment gets setup without all the portlets and
pages.
In RAD you can click on your portal server instance and under the portal tab
you can check "enable portlets for base portal administration".
You can use that to create pages, change themes and so on.

You can also start the portal test environment from outside RAD by going to:
[WAS_ROOT]/bin and typing: 'startserver WebSphere_Portal' (case matters)
.
You can then set it up which ever way you want.

I found that moving between running in RAD and outside makes it behave a lit
tle funny. IMO it's better to setup a separate portal.

Hope it helps,
Raymond

Thanks Raymond! The "Enable base portlets for portal administration and cust
omization" check box was just what I was looking for!
