FMS2 server won't start under RedHat |
 |
 |
|
|
03-21-06 07:48 AM
Hello,
I'm having trouble installing FMS2 on RedHat ES 4, update 2.
After doing a very basic installation, the admin-server starts, but the
server does not. Unfortunately there are no errors in the logfiles.
I use FMS2.0.1-r27, downloaded from macromedia.com.
Does anybody have any pointers for me?
Thanks!
Hans
PS. Below is the installation I did, and some additional information.

Hans,
When we installed on RH 4 we had to open the firewall for it to work.
Is it possible your firewall is blocking it?

Thanks for replying.
The problem isn't the firewall, as there is no procces listening on port
1935. See the netstat-part of my original post.
Just to be sure, I did a '/etc/init.d/iptables stop', with no result.
Hans

I don't know much about *nix but have you (just for a laugh) tried FMS on
another user account apart from nobody?

Yes. I have created a normal user, and changed the "SERVER.PROCESS_UID"
and "SERVER.PROCESS_GID" parameters in fms.ini, and restarted the server.
Unfortunately there was no reason to laugh ;)
Thanks for the suggestion.

Hans,
Here is my experience with a similiar issue on Fedora Core 2=20
(http://renaun.com/blog/?p=3D20):
I tried getting a Flash Media Server installed on a Fedora Core 2 box. I=20
spent hours figuring out why after running the start script nothing=20
would happen. It wasn=92t until I tried running =93./fmsmaster=94 by it s=
elf=20
that I got an error back.
./fmsmaster: error while loading shared libraries: libnspr4.so: cannot=20
open shared object file: No such file or directory
Then it took me some google searching to find that the libnspr4.so=20
belongs to the
=93mozilla-nspr-1.7.6-1.2.5.i386.rpm=94 (for fedora core 2 that is).
A little yum-ing and it was all better.

Thanks, that solved it!
It really surprises me that this message doesn't turn up in the logs,=20
and that the installation manual does not mention it.
Bad engineering, if you ask me...
But hey, it works now, so thanks again.

Hi all,
This is the first I've been made aware of an error in startup that
wouldn't come through the "server" script. I'll make sure that this is
addressed for next release and that there's a tech note in the works.
