I have Norton Ghost 2003.  I run Win XP Home Edition with SR2.  I have two
identical Maxtor HDs.  I want to clone my primary drive to my slave each
week.  My latest Ghost problem goes as follows:  (1) I run Ghost and it
reboots my computer into DOS mode, (2) Ghost runs for about 1 second and
then aborts, (3) the computer reboots into Win XP and then I find that the
format on my slave drive has been ruined!!  Windows doesn't recognize the
drive and when I click on it in My Computer, I'm asked if I want to format
the drive.  I have reformatted the drive various ways including the short
format, letting Win XP do a thorough format, and I have booted to my Win XP
install CD and then formatted the slave that way.  Each time Ghost runs and
ruins the format.  The log after the unsuccessful clone says:  Error Number:
(25003)
Message: Could not fit translated attributes into buffer size.

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

I have using Ghost for about 3 years ....never had a problem and
restored to a new drive twice. I am also using XP with SP2 installed.
When I make a backup, I ALWAYS use a Ghost floppy to boot from. NEVER
THROUGH WINDOWS. You might try that....

Did you look at the Symantic site for that error code?

What build of Ghost 2003 do you have? I think the current build is 2003.793
Have you run "live update"?

Did you try cloning by using the Ghost boot floppy instead of Ghost in
windows?

I've seen one post where the user tracked that error to a bad stick of RAM.
And seeing that you've had so many problems with cloning, maybe that's
something to consider.
