    FMS 2.0 Config Tuning

We recently upgraded from 1.5 to 2.0.1 and noticed that 2.0.1 seems to chew
up alot more CPU and uses less RAM than our 1.5 setup. Our problem is that
it pegs the CPU at 100% and becomes very slow whereas on the older version
our usage would hover in the 60-80% range with snappy response time for
loading video.

Our app is basically like a webcam TV network where we stream 20-30 channels
of no audio/live video to users. On average we are around 600 connections,
40mbps, and 500 messages per second as reported via the Flash admin. The app
has lots of connects and disconnects of users as channel changing takes
place outside of the flash interface and so it causes a connect/disconnect
each time.

Our server specs are as follows:
Windows 2003 Server
Dual Xeon 3.0ghz
1 gig of ram

Plenty of disk space

If anyone has any config file tuning that they could recommend in this type
of setup to bring down the CPU usage, I would appreciate it. We don't use
shared objects at all, the user just connects and gets the live stream sent
to him.

Sincerely,
Nathan Barnett

Hi Nathan,

I'm sure that we can get this sorted out, as there's no reason why 2.0.1
would be slower on the whole than 1.5 - otherwise I spent a lot of time
working on the thing for nothing.

You can email me offlist with the following information

Since we're talking about a CPU issue, here are some questions.

Does CPU go immediately to 100%, or is it a slow ramp up? How about
with a portion of your clients and not the whole thing? Does it ever
recover, like during off periods - or does it stay at 100% forever?
What does your main.asc look like for connecting clients? Is the
application.onConnect a large function? Does it call outside the server
for verification or do complicated math routines? Can you think of some
element of your setup that would consume lots of CPU? Once your
customers are on the server, what do they do? =20

Rest of the list: - if you're running into a similar problem, please
feel free to chime in as well, I'm always interested, just don't always
have time.

Thanks
Asa
