Hi, I'm a Biztalk newbie and am trying to get everything installed and confi
gured correctly to run the tutorials. I've installed everything and am work
ing through the documentation "Before You Begin the Tutorials." Step 3 says
 to unpack the tutorial fil
es in the installation_directory\sdk\tutorial directory. I don't have that
directory. Did I miss something in the install? I've read that the tutoria
l comes with the Documentation part of the installation, which I installed.
I also noticed that in the
install the Developer Tools and SDK part of the install was greyed out becau
se I was missing some prerequisites and so that was not installed. Any help
 would be appreciated.

I presume you are talking about 2006. Id you installed dev tools you should
have C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006\SDK\Tutorial and three
files in it: Readme.txt Tutorial.exe unpack.cmd. If you did not install
dev tools you can re-run setup and get it installed.

Thanks, Michael. I would install the Develop Tools and SDK in the BizTalk i
nstall, but it is greyed out. The box on the right side of the install prog
ram says that Visual Studio .NET 2005 is required. When I installed BizTalk
 it installed Microsoft Vis
ual Studio 2005 for me. I assume this is the same as Microsoft Visual Studi
o ".NET" 2005. I don't see any download from Microsoft that is called Visua
l Studio .NET 2005, so I'm assuming I have the right thing installed, but I
don't know why BizTalk does
n't recognize it. Again, any help would be appreciated. There is a help bu
tton, but the help that it gives is seriously lacking.

Steve,

That is correct - you can't install dev tools unless you have VS.

No. BizTalk would install .NET runtime for you, and some other freely
redistributable components. VS is commecrial product, and BiizTalk requires
several of them - VS, SQL server are the two you surely need for
development. However BizTalk license does not include VS or SQL license, so
you have to acquire and install these products separately.

I believe that there is no .NET in the name of VS 2005. But again, this is
not something that BizTalk will install for you. Do you have "Microsoft
Visual Studio 2005" in your Add/Remove programs?
