As we have a monitoring application that parses through the badmail folder,
it does contain valuable data for us. However, I am struggling to make sense
one when a badmail file is created on that folder or not.

I have a windows 2003 box where a badmail is generated for every bounce
back, including when the description of the problem comes from the
destination server ( i.e. mailbox full ).  This is the behaviour we ideally
want.

In a new windows 2003 box, the SMTP server seems to be only generating a
badmail file if I use a invalid "From" address. To all other bounce backs a
proper NDR is generated via email but the badmail file is not created.

I have compared the 2 servers configurations a and cannot find a difference
in the setup. Is there any resource that explains when a badmail file is
generated and when it is not ?
