David,
I prefer the list of resources since everyone has their own idea of what
distributed computing is and therefore what questions are of interest.
The ITU-T (http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/ used to have a free version of the
RM-ODP specifications available for electronic download. So does/did the OMG
for the CORBA specification and (which corresponds to the RM-ODP model): see
their FAQ: http://www.omg.org/gettingstarted/corbafaq.htm. I am not certain
whether the Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture
Consortium: TINA-C (www.tinac.com) specification is publicly available or
not. (It also uses the reference model) [what better place for distribut
ed
applications!!].
Another ISO/ITU-T group has gone further defining the "Enterprise Language".
It attempts to specify The "business model" for employing RM-ODP based
systems. The ITU-T recommendation is X.911.
The semantics of processes and tasking was particularly interesting to me.
Task based privileges and authorization seemed particularly appropriate.
Here is a reference to
a power point document by Brian Wood that puts all the elements in
perspective:
