Hi,

I recall reading few months ago about a system to bypass censorship and
Internet police, by having encrypted proxy on friend's computer, in
country with no surfing restrictions.

I downloaded the SW at the time, but then removed it, now I cannot find
it any more.

I saw a project in Toronto university with product called Psiphon, but
either its not available yet, or I missed it.

I know the are commercial products, but I am looking for hosting the
proxy on private computer, and have encrypted communication with client
in country where surfing is heavily restricted and monitored.

Does anyone know if there is such product to download?

Roni

tor.freehaven.net

Be careful as it does't protect against an adversary which can monitor
both end-points of your communication.

This is the latency issue with a near real-time anonymity network. If
somebody can watch lots of nodes, they can see a traffic spike as the
client sends something to a Tor server and a corresponding spike at the
Tor exit server.

It's not quite so bad as it sounds, there's a lot of traffic in the
network and all those spikes get nicely mixed up. In future releases of
Tor, clients might become mini-servers which will result in a load more
nodes to monitor.

You are possibly thinking about something called Circumventor. It works by h

The software has some major technical limitations. For example, if the proxy
computer changes IP address -- this is somewhat common for DSL or cable
subscribers -- the proxy stops working and both parties must communicate the
 new
address.

You may also want to take a look at Tor and experiment with it. It is much
simpler to install and it provides a higher degree of anonymity.

Thanks it was Circumventor, which I found downloaded and can't get to
run, will try Tor.

By the way the issue of non static IP is easily solved by using dynamic
DNS either on the Wireless router I have at home, or by using services
of other companies like no-ip.info, and i have client on the PC to
update my IP whenever it changes, so all you need is use same DNS
(free) all the time.

Hi,

I installed Tor its much nicer and simpler, and I like the idea.

Cheers
