Hi,

We have a CMS system that is hosted by our current provider who provide the
AD authentication support for it. We now wish to move providers, so how easy
is it to reinstall CMS on a new box and restore the config, then reconfigure
the AD domain authentication? We can't bring our old box with us, and must
start from scratch. Also, the old architecture is seperate SQL/IIS(with CMS)
,
now I'm being asked to provide the whole thing on a sinlg ebox at a new ISP.
Is there any way to do this without the AD support for authentication? And
any quick restore method? Any help anyone could give me would be much
appreciated, I'm a complete newbie to CMS, think everyone else just didn;t
want the job...

Thanks

Darren

Hi Darren,

you can use either AD or NT accounts for authentication/authorization.
As you are moving to a new location where the old AD is not available you
need to adjust all user and group assignments in the MCMS rights groups to
reflect the new AD/NT groups of the new environment.
In addition you might need to adjust the guest account and the MCMS system
account in the SCA.

Reinstalling MCMS should be the quickest step here.

Cheers,
Stefan

Stefan, is there a restore process anywhere on the net for CMS? My thoughts
are that I create the domain, install SQL, restore the old SQL database,
install CMS and point it at SQL, then restore customisations, etc. from the
old box. I'm not sure about this though, and if there is a process to follow
somewhere I'd be a lot happier.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Darren,

it is as you outlined:
- restore the database
- give the desired MCMS System account the appropriate rights
- run the DCA to use the database (if integrated auth is used the
interactive user requires DBO rights).
- restore the template project using the same virtual path in IIS as on the
original box
- ensure that the template project virtual directory is configured as a web
application in IIS.
- create the "CMS" virtual directory inside the template project web
application and ensure that it is not a web application.

Cheers,
Stefan
