I am running Windows Server 2003 with Windows Sharepoint Services. All the
latest updates are installed.

I cannot get any usage statistics for any of the web sites on this server.
When I try to run usage analysis manually I get these results:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\50\bin>owsadm.exe -o usage

Starting usage, port: /LM/W3SVC/1:.

Created: unknown
Version: 6.0.2.5530
Error: The server administration programs and the server extensions on the
web server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use
with this server.

The Microsoft support knowledge has nothing on this issue. Any advice on how
to correct the problem would be greatly appreciated!!

Martin Danner

Hi Martin,

Looks like this site was either opened as a disk based web in FP2003 or it
was created in FP2003 as a disk based web and copied to the content folder.

If thats the case, just take a backup, copy the content to the FP2003 box,
open it as a disk based web and publish it to the server using
http://myserver as the destination.

If this fails due to any reason, then create a new Site, extend it with
FPSE 2002 and then publish it to this site.

Regards,
Vijay

Thank you Vijay.

This site was created using the Visual Studio .NET "Copy Project" feature. I
used the "File Share" web access method. Are you saying that I need to use
the "Frontpage" web access method to make the usage analysis work properly?

Hi Martin,

Oh!! Am not very sure about how VS.Net works! Just check on the site if
there is a folder _vti_pvt and a file service.cnf (you might have to drag
and drop this file to notepad to open it). Then check for the value set for
the key vti_extenderversion.

Regards,
Vijay
