I have set up a default virtual SMTP server on IIS6, Windows 2003 SP1 for a
client on a hosted machine that is part of a WORKGROUP rather than a DOMAIN.
Outgoing mail works fine except for mail to the local registered web site
name.
(EG: Web site is www.Forever.com, and email to anyone@Forever.com fails).
In these cases, email disappears, and I find the error message
("destination address was misconfigured as a mail loop.") in the System
Event logs.
This machine has no POP3 or Exchange service set up - internal users
actually receive their email for the site through another location (I assume
the website and the Email site are somehow registered differently - a myster
y
to me). I just want to be able to send email to them from the server
applications.
These are my SMTP settings:
Anonymous authentication only
Relay restricted to 127.0.0.1 and the web site IP address
No Masquerade domain
No Smart Host
Advanced Delivery FQDN is: server02345 (fictional)
website name is: Forever.com (fictional)
I am new to SMTP, and am not sure if I have some bad settings, or am just
trying to do the impossible...
Any ideas?
