I'm new to SATA and would like to understand what are the different
standards for cables. As I understand it the SATA standard provides for
1.5 Gbps and 3.0 Gbps interfaces. Questions are:
1) Does each interface require a different type of cable?
2) If you use a SATA 1.5 Gbps cable on a SATA 3.0 Gbps device, does it work
at 1.5 Gbps?
For any kind of desktop application, I just don't see how anyone would need
more than a 1.5 Gbps device. That's more throughput than you get even get
from the rotation of a 15K drive with all the data laid out sequentially in
64K blocks!
