I know this horse has been beaten to death on this message board, but I need
help.
I have a Linux Fedora Core 4 box running FMS and everything works pretty
well, but my company just started blocking port 1935 and possibly all rtmp
traffic. I thought that FMS would automatically http tunnel, but that
doesn't seem to be the case. My Adapter.xml file shows that tunneling is
enabled. I did notice that I had only set up iptables to let ports 1935 and
1111 through which worked fine for me up until now so I opened up port 443
and 80 and 8080 to for good measure, but it still doesn't seem to work.
I've tried creating a new app with rtmps://74.0.48.237:443/room10 as the
Appllication Directory (is this the place to specify this or should I be
looking at changing the connect method itself?) and it still won't connect.
At this point I'm not sure if it's an FMS config issue or possibly that I
have not opened up the firewall correctly.
If anyone has any information on how to test/configure this correctly, I'd
be very grateful.
Thanks,
MRD

You should try an explicit tunneling connection on port 80 or 443:
rtmpt://74.0.48.237:443/room10
(you were using rtmps)
Also try this test:
http://www.flashcomguru.com/apps/port_test/index.cfm
If any of these connections succeed then you're most likely dealing with a
config issue on your FMS box.

I gave that a try but with no luck. The port test passes on several of the
tests so it must be my server configuration. Can anyone help with a Fedora
Core 4 config?
Please...

The OS is most likely irrelevant.
What changes have you made to the standard FMS config files? Did you bind
additional ports? Simply opening those ports on your firewall is not enough,
you got to tell FMS to listen too.

I have made no changes from the basic install of FMS at all...
Are you saying that I need to edit the Adapter.xml file?
Thanks,

Yes,
It's likely that only the default port is bound and you need to add 80 and
443 (and at the same time make sure that no other services are using those
port).

Ok...
I'm getting closer I think.
I can now see that a connection is established to my FMS server through the
output of netstat on the specified port in my appplication directory
definition in the .fla file. However, there does not appear to be a
connection as far as FMS is concerned in the access.00.log.
I've edited my Adapter.xml file with the line below to add ports 80 and 443:
<HostPort name="edge1"
ctl_channel=":19350,80,443">${ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT}</HostPort>
Now I'm wondering if I need to do anything different in in my .fla
application directory definition.
rtmpt://74.0.48.237:80/room99 or if my .asc file needs anything special in
it?
I've tried:
rtmpt://74.0.48.237:80/room99
rtmpt://74.0.48.237:443/room98
rtmps://74.0.48.237:443/room97
Thanks,
MRD

I think you are changing the wrong thing. Don't change Adaptor.xml,
instead, change this line in /opt/macromedia/fms/conf/fms.ini:
ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT = :1935,80,443
Then restart FMS.
