I've already tried google, and I know the proper way to configure proxy
settings in apt. Unfortunately i recently changed my password to
something with an "@" symbol in it. So - when apt parses my apt.conf
it is not correctly identifying the proxy server - something like

Aquire::http::Proxy "user:p@ss@proxy.com"  so apt goes

could not resolve ss@proxy.com.

any ideas on a workaround?

Try "user:p%40ss@proxy.com", or change your password to something
without a "@".
