    * to FLV server-side?

I want to upload any video file, and have it be converted to an FLV file
server-side, and then be able to access this newly created FLV from the same
client-side interface.

Did a 15 minute search on Google and am kind of confused. Apparently there
are products out there beyond FFmpeg that do this, but their product
descriptions do not mention server-side, or of they do, aren't clear about
how you do this.

What can I use to do this? Are there existing services that do this
already? Can it be done in 2 weeks?

Hi Jesse,

I think, you supposed to use ffmpeg or on 2 flix sdk to do it. On 2 flix sdk
is really good they having almost all kind of example from asp to php. You
can use whatever you prefer.

If you want to do it in php and if you are okie with flix then let me know.

Ffmpeg is much more faster than on2 but if you are on a tight deadline and you have no
time to test ffmpeg go with on2. Also Fabio Sonatti has 4 posts regarding ffmpeg on his
blog: http://flashvideo.progettosinergia.com/ (scroll down to the middle of
 the
page).

A few things to note:
The Flix Engine SDK is not to be confused with the Flash 8 Video SDK (both
by On2). My guess would be that the Engine may be affordable to you (I think
I remember a price of a couple of thousand USD), the Flash 8 Video SDK most
likely is not. I've been given a price for the Flash 8 Video SDK but
apparently it's not something that I can publicly speak about... Don't know
why, I guess this could mean that the pricing is real flexible and decided
on a case by case basis?

Jesse, if you need a low cost solution and do not require the VP6 codec then
you can stick with ffmpeg. If you do need VP6 and don't want to splash out
for Flix Engine then try Sorenson Squeeze's watch folder functionality (and
have your app server move files to and from Squeeze). We've used it
successfully to do serverside conversions.

Stefan

Another interesting approach is VideoEggs' one...they wrap up a
clientside On2 encoder in VB with a flash (alike) UI in a new activex
plugin. It provides two hidden benefits:

- offload the CPU usage from the server to the client
- speed up the upload process ( since the encoding is done on the
client instead of the server, and there are always people that try to
upload a 800 mb MOV )

If you have someone with handson VB experience i'm sure they can whip
up a prototype really quick :-)

No, you license their technology to create your own 'encoder-publisher'.
