About the servers location, it actually matters a lot the country where
you are located, and
besides privacy laws other factors like efficiency of police force in that
country, language they
speak and relationship with the country where you live it will all affect
an hypotethical logs transfer
to the authorities in your contry.

For exemple right now the safest place for Americans to store their logs
it is Iran, as besides the language
problem the USA has no diplomatic relationships with them and certainly I
can't imagine the FBI
begging the Iranians for some server logs. But if you are based in Syria,
Iran will likely be quick in transfering
the logs.

It is not all about where the servers are located, and most important of
all the kind of investigation being
carried out also matters a lot, they wont move the earth to track down
some troll in usenet but it will happen
if we are talking about an international terrorist.
