I am having some funny problems getting a credit card machine working.
It is plugged into a FXS port on a voice gateway. Is their any special
configuration parameters required?

What is the router/fxs card type and ios? Does the cc machine dial out
a local PRI or CAS or FXO?

Natively a VIC-4FXS should dial out no issues. Check controller for T1
slips/errored seconds (show controller t1).

Debug vpm signal, do you see it dialing the digits?

Plug a analog phone into the FXS, does it work? Dial the same number the
credit card machine is dialing via a analog phone. Show voice call
summary, does it show G.711 or G.729, etc?

Almost all credit card machines have a support number, where you can ask
what number it dials and how to run a test, that will decline a test
credit card number.

What type of gateway and signalling protocol? It is not supported on ATA de
vices, so I used a 2801. My PRI lines are on an MGCP gateway, so I setup th
e 2801 with MGCP as well. I added:

mgcp modem passthrough voip mode nse

I don't know if it really was needed or not, but I added it in before testin
g the telecheck machines and they worked fine. The TeleCheck machines valid
ate checks and credit cards. So if they worked for me, they should work for
 you ;)

I've used them before on a VG248. The major problem was their digit
timing. They were pulsing in digits about 20msec faster (or something
similar) than what the VG248 would recognize. The vendor was called in,
reprogrammed the terminals, and everything was fine.

I should find out if it is working to today. I have a 2801 H.323
12.3(14)T7. I am pretty sure this is a wiring problem. The FAX line
works, they are able to swap the FAX and Credit Card lines. I
re-punched on the 66-block. I plugged in an analog phone and placed and
received calls.

So the credit card machine works when you move it to the line punched

Does your CC machine need to be reprogrammed to dial the outside line
access
Code? Usually if the CC machine was on it's line to telco, it will need
to be reprogrammed to dial a 9 for an outside call if it did not before.

We run into that all the time. Just a thought. I might be off, but it
can happen.
