What happens after migration to MOSS 2007?

Hi all

I've just completed a migration from a CMS 2002 site. I see I have page
layouts that have been created for my templates that were in CMS 2002 - the
MOSS site created now has an unbranded layout as described in the migration
documentation. Where do I find these page layouts so I can edit them and
start to brand the site?

Also, is Sharepoint Designer the tool one should use when editing (formerly)
template files and page layouts? VS 2005 doesn't seem interested in opening
the Sharepoint Site created - giving the following error:

Visual Web Developer does not support opening SharePoint Web Sites.

Any other post migration documentation would be very much appreciated!

Thanks as always

Shivonne

Hi Shivonne,

you need to use SharePoint designer.
The templates are all stored in the "Master page and page layouts" gallery.

Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks as always for your help Stefan.

I feel really silly asking this but how do you integrate your site with VS
2005 to do custom coding? It seems that the presentation editing has been
separated out into the SharePoint Designer but I still need to do some
behind-the-scenes coding.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Shivonne,

you need to develop your custom controls in VS.NET.
This will generate DLLs.
Then you can add these DLLs to the sharepoint site and reference them from
the template files created with SharePoint designer.

I know it is not as easy to maintain and as convenient as with MCMS.

Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks again for all the help, Stefan.

One last thing - where does the _catalogs virtual directory map to? Or maybe
a better question is where do the site layout pages sit on the file system?
Are they editable outside of SP Designer?

Hi Shivonne,

it resides in the SQL database. Not on the file system.
You can create a web folder to use other tools to edit them.

Cheers,
Stefan
