Hi there,
we're running a FTP server to provide different file downloads to a
special user group. This includes beside PDF and MS Word docs also
large image files. User generally accesses via IE to download.
Unfortunately they can't see any preview before downloading the entire
file sometimes up to 100 MB!!!

I need some inspiration how to improve that. Having thumb nails linked
to the stored file would be the best way. But how could this be
realized without changing the entire approach using a FTP server??
Thought using Open Source galleries like Coppermine or Gallery but
neither they don't work well with large files nor they can't handle
different non-image types of documents.

Well, I just need a way to keep this as simple as possible. All ideas
are welcome.

Thanks in advance
Achim

why ftp? ftp is very simple protocol, not meant for rich user experiences,
just for brute force file transfer. that it can be used from IE is nice,
but that doesn't make it any better. ftp won't generate thumbnails for you,
or at least windows stock ftp server won't. either set up a web site with
thumbnails and links to download the full file, or try a third party server
of some kind that is meant for whatever you are doing.
