Hello,

Has anyone upgraded to kde 3.5.5 "release 19.1"? I upgraded via the repos
and now my kdm login has been changed. It no longer shows the openSUSE
theme. The kdm login has a black background and had the KDE style login
dialog box which shows the console (/var/log/message) messages.

It may be unrelated, but I cannot log into root via kdm login. I also
noticed that "rcxdm restart" or "rcxdm stop" doesn't restart/stop kdm. I
have to issue the "killall kdm" command.

Anyone have any ideas, tips, etc.?

Thanks,

Alvin

I upgraded and have no problems at all, everything is the same.
I did have a problem shutting down after the upgrade. When I ended the
session it went right to console. I had to log in and run shutdown now
but it wanted a password every 2 seconds and wouldn't shut down. So I
shut it off. after the reboot everything went fine. It shutdown fine
last night and booted up like new this morning.

I updated because SMART offered it and I don't know enough to refuse (or
how)!

I, too, had problems shutting down afterwards but remembered (because
it's happened before) to use
shutdown -h now
The '-h' tells the system to halt after shutting down, I believe.

I, too, had a new login dialogue box but I haven't tried to log in as
root by means of it yet.

Perhaps this is another bug - remember the popup telling you that your
/home partition was nearly out of space?

I have now tried to log in as root via KDM and had not trouble.

Same issue here.

KDE 3.5.5 is just released so I suppose the openSUSE packagers haven't had
time to implement the SUSE touches to KDM yet. I'm sure the next upgrade
will fix the issue.

I found a solution. I ran "genkdmconf --no-old". That fixed the kdm config
files. I guess the RPMs that are in the repo do not call this command when
they are installed?

Just wanted to report I have no kdm problems at all. :-) SuSE 10 and KDE
3.5.5 release 19.1 now happely running on my pc!! Might it be related to
10.1? Just a thought. Noone has actually mentioned any version number of
SUSE in the thread before ... If it is related to SUSE 10.1, why? And, if
so, has someone filed a bugreport to openSUSE ???????

In my case it's not really a problem, it's only that the SUSE'ified kdm
login screen is replaced by the standard kdm login, and I suppose most
people don't spend much time at the login screen in any case. As Alvin
pointed out, the packagers probably forgot to include a command about kdm
behavior in the rpm's. And the command "genkdmconf --no-old" will bring
back the SUSE kdm screen as Alvin suggested.

And yes, I run SUSE 10.1, both 32 and 64, bit, so the "problem" might only
affect 10.1.

I also had the problems of login secreen and root login and the command
fixed these problems. What does it actually do?

I still have a problem of Korganizer not working. Its just doesn't open.
But when I open it from Kontact, it works alright.
