I'm using Acronis to backup to an external and a separate internal
drive. But I want to transfer these multi-GB files to DVD as well
for off-site storage..

Nero won't burn files to DVD that are larger than the capacity of
the DVD--that is, it won't span DVDs unless of course I use Backitup
or InCD. I'd rather have a burner that just copied the multi-GB
file.

Having heard many stories, I don't trust Acronis new capacity for
doing its own burning and I'd rather not introduce packet writing if
I can avoid it.

Can anyone suggest a burner that will span DVDs and not introduce
any complications?

As the DVD specifications formally limit filesize to just above 1
GB per file, you may want to reconcider this 'requirement'.
As video DVDs do: split the file into 1 GB chunks.

With files within the formal specs, you stand a much better
chance to read the DVD's on 'any system'.

You just need to tell Acronis True Image to split your backup image
into 4.5gb-4.7gb chunks. It's in the "Set Options Manually" button
during the wizard setup, called "Archive Splitting."

Then burn each 4.5gb chunk file to a separate DVD.

If you have double layer, your chunk would be 8.5 (I think that's the
number).
