I am trying to upgrade an IBM LTO2 tape drive from a firmware revision in
the 3000 series to 53Y3 using the IBM LTO-TDX tool under Windows.
First, is this utility still IBM's state of the art for firmware upgrades?
The UI and error checking look to be about 1987 quality software. It's
unbelievable that such a primitive software tool would be what IBM gives to
technicians to upgrade firmware when they have such an enormous installed
base of the LTO tape drive product.
Second, when we attempt the upgrade, we get an immediate failure ("Write
failed!" or something close to this). I suspect it is something fairly
straightforward but am hoping someone can save me hours of methodical
experimenting if they have encountered this before. What are possible
workarounds?
